What is CBD?

With all the hype surrounding CBD, Dr. Barry will help you understand what it’s all about and why you may want to consider using CBD.

What is CBD?

I’m sure we’ve all heard of the term CBD which is an abbreviation that stands for CANNABIDIOL. Which happens to be the most naturally occurring and most abundant non-intoxicating component found in cannabis that comprises up to 40% of the whole plant. It’s commonly used as a supplement from the Industrial Hemp plant to assist in supporting overall health. CBD is a highly studied natural Cannabis compound and according to many researchers, CBD may very well be the single most important compound that has ever been discovered…And as I’ve mentioned many times before rivaling the discovery of penicillin!

Let’s remember that the cannabis plant is a unique source of more than 100 structurally related components known as Cannabinoids along with Terpenoids, Essential Oils, and other compounds of the original plant. These plant-derived compounds are considered phytocannabinoids meaning of a plant origin and mirror our own internally manufactured cannabinoids better known as Endocannabinoids.

Now, CBD Pro’s highly concentrated CBD Hemp Oil is derived solely from industrial hemp with naturally occurring high concentrations of CBD. Out of all the cannabinoids, only one cannabinoid, THC, is known to have psychotropic effects associated with the use of illicit herbal cannabis, none of the other cannabinoids are known to cause this intoxicating effect. With that being said, CBD does not cause a euphoric effect or a high, unlike its more noted counterpart THC. Therefore, CBD is non-psychotropic which is due to its lack of affinity to receptors found in high concentrations in the brain, which is the pathway responsible for the intoxicating effect that THC possesses. Additionally, it is well known in scientific research that CBD is anti-psychotropic.

In recent decades, there have been major scientific advances that have led to the discovery of new plant derived cannabinoids and a cannabinoid receptor system that has been hardwired into the human body known as the Endocannabinoid System.

CBD was first isolated back in the 1940’s and its structure and configuration wasn’t fully documented until the 1960’s by Professor Dr. Raphael Mechoulam and his team of researchers in Israel. It’s interesting to note that as of 2020, PubMed.gov, a service of the National Institute of Health has indexed over 7,000 studies that have been done on CBD. That alone should tell the importance even our federal government upon CBD, not to mention the patent. That’s right our government holds a patent on CBD! So, keep this in mind, CBD is a cannabiniod, a component of the Hemp plant, that is devoid of intoxicating effects and, in my opinion as well as many other healthcare researchers, possesses broad clinical effects for an astonishing spectrum of ailments.

So, I encourage you to investigate the tremendous benefits of CBD and you too can understand why so many scientists, researchers, health professionals and patients alike are so excited about this simple compound called CBD!
